Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Gazali Issahaku

Dr. Gazali Issahaku is a DAAD Alumnus. He was a PhD candidate of the University of Kiel from October 2015 to January 2019.

My name is Gazali Issahaku. I hold MPhil and PhD in Agricultural Economics, BSc (Agriculture) and Certificate in Education. I am currently the Principal of the Bagabaga College of Education, Tamale. As the Chief Executive Officer, the Principal is the administrative and academic head of the College, and I am accountable to the College Council. I chair Management meetings and key committees of the Governing Council of the College. I am also the administrative head, and therefore responsible for organizing and conducting the financial and administrative business of the College in line with the Statutes of the Colleges of Education, decisions of Academic Board, and in line with other national laws and regulations of Ghana. Prior to my appointment to the position of College Principal, I was a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Food Security and Climate Change, University for Development Studies, Tamale Ghana.

My Research Experience in Germany

I pursued my PhD in Germany at the University of Kiel from October 2015 to January 2019. My research interest is in Climate-smart agriculture, Food Security, Education, Sustainable agriculture and Food Systems. My PhD focused on the Contribution of of Climate-Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Land Management to farm performance, Food and Nutrition Security and poverty reduction in Ghana.

My view on higher education and internationalization

My vision for higher Education is to position Colleges of Education (BACE) as the leading centers for the training of professionally competent teachers, grounded in up-to-date pedagogy, research skills, critical thinking ability and moral values.

To the next generation scientists, I would say: Aspire to achieve excellence in whatever you do and do it with love and passion.
