Das Maria Sibylla Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA) widmet sich im Wesentlichen der Forschung in den Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften, wobei das Thema “Nachhaltige Regierungsführung” im Mittelpunkt steht.

Das Institut bietet Zeit und Raum für die Förderung innovativer wissenschaftlicher Projekte in den Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften von internationaler Spitzenqualität. MIASA unterstützt diese Projekte durch verschiedene Arten von Stipendien: Einzelstipendien, Tandemstipendien mit einem Tandempartner aus Deutschland und dem anderen aus Afrika sowie Stipendien als Mitglieder von Interdisziplinären Fellowgruppen (IFG). Von 2021 bis 2026 wird MIASA insgesamt 20 Stipendien pro Jahr vergeben.
