Short Term Research Grants

If you want to stay in Germany for up to six months for your PhD or research project, the Short Term grant is your best option. Funding is applicable for a research project or course of continuing scientific education at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany, which is being carried out in coordination with an academic adviser in Germany.
Applications are welcome from excellently-qualified doctoral candidates and young academics and scientists who have completed a Master's degree or Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs).

Binationally supervised PhD

The aim of this programme is the funding of bi-national doctoral projects at the home university and at a university in Germany. This funding system has multiple phases and is flexible according to the candidate’s preferences and covers research stays in Germany.

Either the doctoral candidates start their doctoral degree in their home country and subsequently spend research periods in Germany. According to this the doctorate is completed in the home country with participation of the German academic adviser; the doctoral degree is awarded by the home university.

Or the doctoral degree is done at the home university and at a university in Germany. The prerequisite is an individual cooperation contract between the participating universities about the doctoral project which is to be supervised. Therefore the German university and the foreign partner university award a doctoral degree together.
